In 2012, Kennedy Library created an ALA award-winning series of events and infographic to celebrate Banned Books Week, including guest author Stephen Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower).

Kaffir Boy Challanged in San Luis Obispo

In 2010, San Luis Obispo High School received an anonymous complaint about Kaffir Boy being taught in the school. The School Board put together a review committee of School Board members, teachers, parents and students to decide if the book should be removed. On October 1, 2010 they decided not to remove the book from the classroom.

On October 2, 2010 author of Kaffir Boy, Mark Mathabane spoke at Cal Poly University about the book, his life in South Africa and censorship.
