Welcome to Summer Institute 2021 Library Research Seminars Guide!

Welcome to the Summer Institute 2021 Library Research Seminar guide. We are excited to work with you over the course of three weeks during Summer Institute. You will attend one library research seminar each week (3 in total) where you will learn about library resources and services that will help and support you as you work on your ENGL 150 and ES 112 writing assignments. 

This guide is the hub for all library-related Summer Institute materials. In this guide you will find:

  • A copy of the Library Research Seminar presentation slides and speaker notes.
  • A link for the Library Research Tutorial and Assignment (homework) due: Sunday, August 8th at 11:59 pm.
  • Four handouts that offer tips and strategies for a) finding articles in OneSearch and library databases, b) identifying scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles c) evaluating information sources for credibility, and d) identifying various types of articles.
  • One pre-library seminar survey (due prior to attending Week 1) and one post-library seminar survey (due after attending Week 3).

Library Seminar Surveys

Task: Complete the pre-library seminar survey to tell us about your prior research experience.

Due Date: Before attending your Week 1 Library Research Seminar either on Tuesday, July 27 or Wednesday, July 28.

Task: Complete the final library seminar survey to reflect on what you learned and your confidence in completing assignments. 

Due Date: At the end of your Week 3 Library Research Seminar on either Monday, August 9 or Tuesday, August 10. 

Library Seminar Handouts

These handouts offer tips and strategies for a) finding articles in OneSearch and library databases, b) identifying scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles, c) evaluating information sources for credibility and d) various types of articles.
